Conceived and developed by Fiona Middleton, fellow of the Ocean Fellowship Program 2020, "Marine Geology of San Lorenzo" is a study of the geological history of the Veneto region through the analysis of the mineral and fossil remains embedded in the buildings and foundations of the Church of San Lorenzo, now home to Ocean Space.

Venice had many identities prior to its settlement by humans. Remnants of the region’s deep history are scattered across the city; in its broader morphology, but also present in building materials.

Through Ocean Space social media channels, on Saturday November 28 and on Sunday November 29, Fiona will explore the geological history of the region, in particular by investigating the lost seas and landscapes captured in the Pietra d’Istria, the limestone sedimentary rock from the peninsula of the same name in the Adriatic Sea.
