The Venice-Murano-Burano Municipality

On the occasion of the night of San Lorenzo, Ocean Space and the Venice-Murano-Burano Municipality present an evening to celebrate the summer, the San Lorenzo church complex, and the phenomenon of shooting stars through concerts, performances, and conferences.

Ocean Space will have special extended opening hours from 7pm to 11pm, and will be hosting “Welcome Wanderer” by the artist Matteo Nasini, a performance based around listening to the stars and, for a brief moment, crossing the galaxy in their company, shooting into the unknown. For this event, “Welcome Wanderer” will be based on the GPS coordinates of the symbolic places associated with Ocean Space’s current exhibitions: the North Atlantic Ocean that connects Jamaica and the Portuguese Wild Islands, the locations dealt with in the exhibitions by Dineo Seshee Bopape and Diana Policarpo respectively, translating the stars of the celestial dome that moves over the ocean into a musical composition.

The evening's program will conclude with the concert "Ascoltando le stelle" by the Fratelli di Giorgio in Campo San Lorenzo, organized by the Venice-Murano-Burano Municipality, and a conference entitled "The impacts of Asteroids on the Earth. Considering the possibility that these catastrophic events could occur",by the Venetian Astrofili Association / Planetarium of Venice in Chiostro San Lorenzo.

During the event, our team of cultural mediators will be available to visitors to offer insights and information regarding our current exhibitions and the history of the Church of San Lorenzo itself. Guided tours are free. Meeting point at the entrance to Ocean Space.

Thanks for the support Clima.

Welcome Wanderer

“Welcome Wanderer” is an installation capable of translating the movement of the billions of stars of the Milky Way that pass above us into an automatic musical composition. Through the universal language of music, the installation seeks to underline the isolation of our planet from the rest of the galaxy. The harmonies generated by the software from the analysis of space are expressed through the human voice in the form of a polyphonic chant, a metaphor and reflection of all humanity on its journey through the unknown.

Matteo Nasini

Matteo Nasini's artistic research stems from an in-depth study on sound. After graduating from the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome and his experience in the Luigi Cherubini orchestra directed by Riccardo Muti, Nasini dedicated himself to an artistic research in which his experiences form dialogues with, and reformulate themselves with one another, representing an investigation between sound, matter, and the unexplored. His work includes sound installations, performances, sculptures, and textiles. Matteo Nasini is represented by Clima gallery and has exhibited his works at: Manifesta 13 (Marseille); Triennale (Milan); Maxxi, Macro, The National Gallery, Auditorium Parco della Musica (Rome); Villa Croce (Genoa); Pescheria Visual Arts Center (Pesaro); Palazzo Fortuny (Venice); MO.CO (Montpellier); MRAC (Serignan); The Hammer Museum (Los Angeles); Rowing (London); Royal Museum of Worcester (Worcester)
