Saturday October 2, on the occasion of the 10th edition of Art Night Venezia, Ocean Space will be open from 6:00pm until 10:30pm. During the evening it will be possible to visit the exhibition "The Soul Expanding Ocean #1: Taloi Havini" (from 20:00 to 22:30) and attend the performance exhibition "The Soul Expanding Ocean #2: Isabel Lewis" (from 15:00 to 20:00) both curated by Chus Martínez.

At the heart of Taloi Havini's solo exhibition is the 22-channel sound piece "Answer to the Call" (2021), commissioned by TBA21-Academy for Ocean Space. Using an ancient compositional technique, the artist creates a dialogue with the audience through a sound method of "call and response", inviting them to connect in deep listening with the Pacific Ocean. The sound track (43:32 min) evolves to include archival sources such as underwater recordings of sonar mapping performed on the Schmidt Ocean Institute's research vessel Falkor, songs of ocean travel and two instrumental pieces composed by renowned Bougainvillean musician Ben Hakavitz and Bolivian multi-instrumentalist Mario Celestino.

The performance exhibition "O.C.E.A.N.I.C.A. (Occasions Creating Ecologically Attuned Narratives in Collective Action)" has been commissioned and produced by TBA21–Academy by the artist and choreographer Isabel Lewis for Ocean Space and Venice. Isabel Lewis invites participants and visitors to the church and it’s surroundings as if they are inside the waters of the Oceans, the bodies taken by the currents and the voice integrated into the piece as a political component, a marker of Venice’s long traditions of choirs, communal politics, music, and sound as an identity trait.

Inside Ocean Space, our cultural mediators and Ocean Fellows are available to answer visitors' questions about the current exhibitions and the history of the Church of San Lorenzo.

No booking is required to visit the exhibition and attend the performance exhibition. Please note that some delays at the entrance may occur due to the reduced capacity of Ocean Space. We will accommodate all visitors as soon as possible.

In line with the rules to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the capacity of Ocean Space has been reduced to guarantee a safe experience.

Masks must be worn inside Ocean Space (properly covering both nose and mouth) and hands must be sanitized with the provided sanitizer upon entrance. A temperature check will be carried out at the entrance.
